Ghazala Firdous Hashmi has emerged as the first Muslim woman and the first South Asian woman to hold the office of Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, United States.

Ghazala spent 25 years as an educator and academic administrator, including roles at the University of Richmond and J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.
For the record, Ghazala served as a Virginia state senator from 2020 to 2026 before being elected Lieutenant Governor.
